For the last 50 years, A.D. Players has been a mainstay in the world of Houston theater. Generations of actors have come through the Players, either as interns, members of the resident company or in other professional capacities, learning and training within its creative community. This season, the company is proud to present Miracle on 34th Street on Friday, December 27th!

It’s Christmas in 1947. Inside the walls of New York’s Macy’s Department Store, an old man by the name of Kris Kringle gets a job working as the beloved Santa Claus. His joy and generosity make people take note across the city. Word gets out he truly believes he is Santa, and after an unfortunate set up, he is institutionalized for fear of being delusional and dangerous. A lawyer and a young girl must prove in court that he is who he believes he is and protects the joy of Christmas fantasy for generations to come.

The history of A.D. Players runs parallel to the life and leadership of former Artistic Director Jeannette Clift George who founded the Players in 1967. Originally from Houston, she came to A.D. Players with an extensive background in professional theater including acting Off-Broadway, at the Playhouse in the Park in Philadelphia, the Arena Stage in Washington, DC, and touring with the New York Shakespeare Company.

In founding A.D. Players, Mrs. George married her years of performance and expertise in the theater arts with her passion for offering a theater experience that would uphold human value, nurture creativity and promote artistic excellence and education.

Miracle on 34th Street is based upon the Twentieth Century Fox motion picture and is adapted by Mountain Community Theater from the novel by Valentine Davies. The play will show at A.D. Players at the George Theater this Friday, December 27th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $25-$75 and are available online at www.adplayers.org. For more information, please call (713) 526-2721.
